Do you play an instrument? Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a professional musician touring with bands and building a career playing the instrument you love?
Then this is the event for you! Open to ALL ages and ALL abilities. Great Lake Music Co. are bringing Tiki Taane to Taupō to showcase his music, chat about his extensive career in the music industry and have a jam with you!
Get Live! Is an annual workshop hosted by Great Lake Music Co. with support from the Taupō Creative Community Scheme, Cafe Lacus and Red Cymbals Australia designed to get your inner musician inspired. We are stoked to be joined by Tiki Taane this year.
One of the most well known and diverse artists and producers in Aotearoa (NewZealand), Tiki Taane (Ngāti Maniapoto / MacDuff) is considered to be an influential element in the pioneering of Aotearoa’s bass culture, as well as the country’s most prolific genre-bending experimentalist.
First hitting the stage in 1991, Tiki went on to become the live engineer and eventually frontman of leading band Salmonella Dub in 1996, which catapulted Tiki to embark upon a life changing solo career that saw his music and production skills reach record breaking, award winning heights.
What to expect:
Each workshop includes a showcase by Tiki Taane and a Q&A session hosted by local legend Ashley Pirie, where we get to learn all about Tiki’s musical journey. This is followed by the Red Cymbals open jam session where we have multiple drum kits set up for you to have a go jamming on no matter what your level is, as long as you feel confident holding a beat you can get involved. There will also be keys, guitar and bass ready to go for our intermediate to advanced players, and as chaotic as it sounds this is the most fun part of each session! There will be teachers from Great Lake Music Co. there to help keep things flowing and it’s totally cool if you’d rather be there to just watch and be inspired rather than get behind an instrument.
